My name is Karlene Clair and I live in Amherst, New Hampshire with my family. My husband, Dan and I have four children combined. My two stepdaughters, Devin, 16 and Payton, 18, and two boys, Brady, 4 and Aden, 12! Our favorite thing to do, as a family, is to spend time at our vacation home on Lake Winnisquam, where we have a boat to waterski, wakeboard, and wake surf! Being a Doula is truly an honor and a privilege. To serve a family in such an influential and extraordinary event in their lives is really like watching love, if it was something that could be seen, and not just felt. During the labor, I focus on creating a protected space filled with tenderness and understanding - where the mother and the partner feel safe to be whatever they need to be, and I am whatever they need at any given moment during the labor and birth. If I am lucky, and depending on the mother, sometimes there is an unspoken bond that is created - between the mother, often times the father, and myself. The bond cannot be explained in any other way except a deep spiritual connection where I am invited (not with words, but with something that occurs in the soul) to the "inner birth bubble" (I made that up), and its absolutely magical; food for my soul; the piece that doesn't make sense to most people, but it is the piece that makes the most sense to me. To witness the mother and partner suddenly become whole by welcoming their baby into the world, and looking at the baby for the first time, is indescribable - the love and connection is almost palpable in the delivery space, it truly makes this job the best job on the planet. I also work with families as a Childbirth Educator and Lactation Counselor and have found an unexpected passion in educating expectant mothers and breastfeeding mothers and families. I am so very grateful for the opportunities I have been presented with thus far!
